Assess Your Risk During National Cyber Security Awareness Month

Posted by Camden Swita on October 11 2016

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month. It’s also the time of year when your organization finalizes its roadmap for next year, so there’s no better time to conduct a data breach preparedness assessment.

Even if you already have a data security strategy in place, it’s critical to take stock often of what’s working and what isn’t and arrange changes to further mitigate your risk of a costly and embarrassing breach or leak. What might have been sufficient to keep your data, documents and files confidential and under your thumb a year or even six months ago may not be enough now. New threats and advancements in threats to your data security crop up all the time and your strategy needs to adapt accordingly.

Vaultize Helps Its Fortune Customer Recover from a Ransomware Attack

Posted by Paresh Pandey on June 1 2016

Every few days, we see a new headline about organizations becoming target of ransomware. Ransomware is a type of malware, which forces organizations to pay ransom by limiting or preventing their employees from accessing the digital assets (like files and databases) in their possession. A ransomware typically encrypts files on endpoints and file repositories, thus preventing access to the files and then, in order to decrypt the files, demands payment. The ransom prices vary, ranging from a few dollars to thousands of dollars per file – which can run into millions of dollars for a large organization. It is important to note, however, that paying the ransom does not guarantee that users can eventually access the infected system or files.

Build Your Defense Against Ransomware Through Endpoint Backup

Posted by Sameer Vitkar on January 21 2016

What is Ransomware? What is the associated security risk? What is our defense mechanism? Your C-level executives may have asked you similar questions, as there has been a sharp rise in the number of incidents of this devastating malware that attempts to extort money from the victims with promises of restoring data infected (actually encrypted) by them.

Security, compliance and data governance requirements are becoming more stringent and challenging for enterprises in today’s world of consumerization of information technology and enterprise mobility where end-users are demanding anywhere, anytime access to corporate data for increased productivity. And, the external threat landscape has grown to a level never seen before.

How to Solve Shadow-IT for File Sharing Without Compromising Compliance and Governance Objectives

Posted by Anand Kekre on November 3 2015

Shadow IT is becoming a serious risk for businesses and a pervasive problem for IT leaders resulting in not only huge cost endurances for the company but also in serious threats of security, data leakage and (most importantly) compliance risks. The shadow IT in enterprises has significantly increased over last few years because of proliferation of freely available cloud services (like Dropbox) and mobile applications.

If you ever discover Shadow-IT in your organization, the best way to handle it is not by giving a knee-jerk reaction and banning it outright, but understanding the end-user needs and provide them an alternative.

Safe Harbor, Privacy and Sovereignty Elements in Enterprise File Sharing

Posted by Anand Kekre on October 20 2015

Consumerization of information technology and enterprise mobility have given rise to end-users’ demand for anywhere, anytime access to corporate data. While ignoring such requests is turning out to be risky for enterprise IT because of Shadow-IT, many businesses have implemented enterprise file sharing (Enterprise File Sync and Share – EFSS) solutions as an alternative to Dropbox.

But just implementing a secure enterprise file sharing solution is not the end to the IT decision makers’ woes. Recently the Court of Justice of the European Union declared that the US Safe Harbor is invalid, directly affecting the companies in European countries that use public cloud file sharing vendors. It was an eye opener for other geographies as well.

Large Attachment Problem – Resorting to Consumer File Sharing Can Be eDiscovery and Compliance Risk

Posted by Gary Cooke on October 8 2015

Data size is growing day by day. Large attachments have been a problem for corporate users and enterprise IT both. IT restricts the size of attachments to control the growth of (costly) storage and to keep the Exchange/Domino servers efficient. Bloated mailboxes affect the efficiency of mail clients like Outlook and Lotus Notes.
